Back in the Day

Lately I've been obsessed with wearing sneakers with dresses and skirts. It actually takes me back to the 90's when dressing like a man was a trend. Growing up in Spanish Harlem, I've seen trends and fads come and go, but being able to dress like one of the guys was my favorites. Baggy jeans, rugby shirts and Timberland boots was my everyday attire. But like most things, this trend faded into the background, I got older and my style evolved. Hard to believe the woman you see today use to be into that type of style. That's why I love when old styles and trends make their way around again, it gives me back a little bit of my past while I take it make it work with my current style. One of my favorite sneakers to wear back in the 90's were a classic pair of Stan Smith Adidas. It was something about the simplicity to them and how they were still able to make a statement. Not to mention they went with literally everything. Now you can find them in damn near every color combination, like my Metallic Pink ones (see here) and of course the Classic White ones with Gold Accents that I'm wearing here.

Denim jackets was another trend that as huge in the 80's. With Break dancers and "B" Boys especially, getting the back of them spray painted with your crews name on it. Denim jackets have lasted the test of time and will always be a timeless piece. I love when a brand can take an old favorite and remix it for today's fashion. This Tie Sleeve Denim Jacket is such a fun and cute twist on a classic. I love the light wash denim and crop design of this jacket. The ruffle sleeves add volume and femininity to the style. This one will definitely be making more appearances this season.

Just like my Stan Smiths, Denim jackets go with just about anything. Pairing it with this fun Striped Dress made this such a fun and casual look. The dress was just so comfy and easy dress to wear, perfect for the weekend. Adding my backpack totally gave me a school girl feel. Made me feel like I was back in my late teens, listening to 90's hip hop music, young and carefree.
